DIVORCE ORGANIZER AND PLANNER BY GAIL TRAHD

Though I review a lot of fictional books and novels I also like to read some factual books too. Below is my review of a book that perhaps we should be taught in schools, or at the very least read before we ever think of getting married! Having gone through a divorce myself after 12 years of marriage. I finally took the plunge and escaping a life of domestic abuse. My parents also divorced, with me ending up being somewhat of a go between even though I tried my best not to be. Having said that my parents divorce after 40+ years of marriage was much more amicable than mine. Anyhow enough about me, I just wanted to explain why I show an interest in books on escaping domestic violence and divorce etc.

INITIAL THOUGHTS
I'm 25% done with Divorce Organizer and am thinking Am I gonna learn things I should have done and didn't?

MY REVIEW
I received this book directly from the Author free of charge in exchange for my honest review.
It's quite ironic as I sit here on 3rd September writing this review as it would have been my 20th Wedding Annivarsary had I not gone through my divorce. Do I have any regrets about my divorce? Only two, one that I didn't do it sooner and two that I now feel I was much to soft on my violent ex!
So about the book - this is quite literally a handbook/guide to all things related to divorce. Though to be totally honest to avoid mistakes in marriage it would probably make much more sense to read this book before you ever get married! It has lots of advice and things to think about, like do you really need only that joint bank account? Should the house you are buying be in just your husbands name or do you need to make sure your name is on the house deeds?
Then there's child support, how much should be paid? what should be included? ie. after school clubs, dancing club, music lessons, school uniforms, new shoes etc.
And who gets the children for which holidays and for how long? Who decides which school your child should attend? What religion they should be brought up in?
So what did I think? The book is catered more for american law but the majority of the information can be used over here in the UK too. The book contains some great advice, and contains things you perhaps wouldn't think of. the book also contains real people and their "mistakes" and what they would change if they could and if they had read this book.
As this book is so different my sum up will also be slightly different.
I do seriously sympathize with anyone going through a divorce, it is literally as if you are walking through a mine field just waiting for the next bomb to go off. So would I recommend this book? YES! anyone with marriage in mind should read it BEFORE they commit and start mixing finances.
